I painted this album cover for the store! This is one of those record covers that just begs you to listen. And you discover, it’s not really “funk.” George Clinton and Eddie Hazel were super into Hendrix and LSD at the time, and the opening guitar solo is really a psychedelic trip more than anything. Clinton had instructed Hazel to play as if he learned that his mother had just died. It’s intense, beautiful, sad, and deep. The album turns around with “Can You Get to That” and “Hit It and Quit It.”
I got a chance to see PFunk in Oct 2023, and it was all the rage. George Clinton is still center stage, directing 20-30 musicians and performers into an epic party. The crowd dances and howls and pulls flasks from their purses and will not leave. Go see them live while you still can!!!
