My Bloody Valentines second studio album and most notorious for taking about three years to create and costing the label about £250,000 to produce. When I think of shoegaze, this is probably the album the pops into my head first. It has unique tunings and guitar vibrato that is layered thicker than a Russian Honey Cake. Vocalist and guitarist Kevin Shields never seemed to want to stop mixing this thing and Creation Records told him that if he didn’t finish it sooner than later, there might not be a label around to release it! Their sales had been dwindling and they really needed this heavyweight release to get them back in the game. Fortunately for them, and for the rest of the world, he did just that! The results are the dreamy overlapping of melodies that are never ending in their inventiveness, with slightly buried vocals made to match the drone in perfect symmetry.
