In March of 2023, Amy started painting the 3' x 3' acrylic paintings for our store, and this Mac Miller painting was her first of the series. She was going through a bit of a Mac Miller phase, and why not? There's so much to love and admire about him, so much joie de vivre, and so much depth.
For this painting, she researched all the different photos available on the internet and chose
an outtake from the Swimming sessions, and paired it with the lyric from Circles, in a facsimile of his handwriting: "this is what it look like." The line goes on, "before you fall." Is it a haunting premonition or just a humble feeling in his gut that everything he had was too good to be true and easily could be snatched away?
Mac Miller was a man of many tattoos, and they didn't necessarily have to have deep meaning, he was just living in the moment: Pittsburgh Pirates, year of birth, MOST DOPE, Jewish and Christian symbols, a sunset he wanted to remember. The Swimming sessions photograph captures him perfectly, and Amy's painting adds another level, employing a bit of Van Gogh-esque brushwork.
A lot of people over the past three years have inquired to purchase this painting, but we couldn't possibly part with it. We are, though, pleased to offer a limited edition (of 50) fine art print, signed and and numbered by Amy. The paper size is 20" x 20", the image size is 18.5" x 18.5."
Because the print is on watercolor paper and we don’t have tubes, this item is for IN-STORE PICK UP ONLY.
Thank you!!
