First there was The Chronic in 1992. Then came Doggystyle in 1993. Cementing the emergence of G-Funk and bringing Gangsta Rap mainstream are what Snoop & Dre achieved on this intoxicating and party-themed album. While only 3 official singles were released- “Who Am I (What’s My Name),” “Gin & Juice,” and “Doggy Dogg World” - this album contains many other notable tracks including “Lodi Dodi,” “Ain’t No Fun (If The Homies Can’t Have None),” and “Gzs and Hustlas.” “Murder Was the Case” would be remixed and released as a single the following year as part of the soundtrack of the same name. Journey back through time as this mid 90s capsule borrows heavily from classic soul and funk records while showcasing Dr. Dre’s keen ability to create catchy beats for Snoop’s laid-back flow. Guest spots on the album are numerous, notably including Nate Dogg, Warren G, The Dramatics, Daz Dillinger, Kurupt, and George Clinton. (even a six-year old Bow Wow can be heard on “Classroom Intro” near the end of the album.)
